LL-37

The human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, studied in immunity and wound-healing research.

LL-37 is a host-defence and immunomodulatory peptide of the cathelicidin family — the only functional cathelicidin found in the human body. It is a bioactive 37-amino-acid protein fragment whose sequence begins with a pair of leucines (Leu-Leu), produced by enzymatic cleavage of the precursor protein hCAP-18 by proteinase-3 in neutrophils and epithelial cells. The peptide has a positively charged amphipathic α-helix structure, giving it exceptional electrostatic affinity for the negatively charged phospholipid membranes of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, fungi and enveloped viruses. LL-37 works through physical membrane disruption, perforating microbial walls and killing them by osmotic lysis without giving bacteria the chance to develop classic resistance; it also neutralises endotoxins by binding lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to help prevent septic shock. It plays an advanced role in immune modulation and tissue repair: it recruits immune cells through FPRL-1 receptors, stimulates new blood-vessel formation (angiogenesis) via the EGFR and VEGF pathways, speeds keratinocyte migration to close chronic wounds and combats bacterial biofilms.

The innate human antimicrobial and all-round immune modulator for wound repair and destroying complex bacterial biofilms

If you are looking for the strongest innate immune line of defence against antibiotic-resistant microbial infections — breaking down stubborn bacterial biofilms while speeding the healing of difficult wounds and repairing damaged tissue — LL-37 is the natural cornerstone your immune system uses to face microbes and protect tissue.

Classification: Immune cathelicidin peptides, antimicrobial peptides, stimulators of wound repair and angiogenesis (Antimicrobial Peptides / Cathelicidins / Immunomodulators / Tissue Regeneration).

Structurally, it is a positively charged helical 37-amino-acid peptide combining hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions, allowing it to pierce bacterial lipid membranes like a microscopic chemical needle without harming the body's own neutrally charged living cells.

Picture pathogenic bacteria as fortresses surrounded by complex defensive walls and mucous shields (biofilms) that stop ordinary antibiotics from reaching them. LL-37 is a specialised assault team that breaches the walls directly and dismantles the fortress's shields completely, leaving the germs exposed and destroying them physically within moments.

How it works

Thanks to its positive charge, LL-37 is strongly attracted to the negatively charged surfaces of bacteria and fungi. On contact, it inserts into the lipid bilayer of the pathogen's membrane, disrupting its permeability and creating widening pores that cause fluid influx and burst the cell by decisive osmotic lysis. Beyond killing germs, the peptide binds endotoxin (LPS) released by Gram-negative bacteria, neutralising its toxicity and preventing destructive cytokine storms. At the same time, it acts as a smart stimulator of FPRL-1 receptors on immune and endothelial cells, directing white blood cells to the site of injury and stimulating new capillaries to nourish damaged tissue. It also activates the division and migration of epithelial cells and keratinocytes — accelerating closure of deep wounds, repairing pressure sores and diabetic ulcers, and cleansing the mucous membranes and respiratory tract — while maintaining a healthy immune balance.

In advanced research and clinical settings, LL-37 is studied as one of the most important alternative solutions for patients with multi-drug-resistant bacteria (superbugs) and for repairing burns and complex wounds in people with diabetes, as well as for its role against chronic lung infections and cystic fibrosis and in resetting innate immunity.

Defending against aggressive microbes does not necessarily require manufactured chemicals — it rests on activating the authentic biological weapon the body designed to cleanse itself and build its tissues with the highest efficiency.

The natural peptide weapon against stubborn microbes and for speeding the healing of deep wounds. LL-37 is the leading immune shield derived from the human body's cathelicidins for innate defence and tissue cleansing. It belongs to the class of antimicrobial peptides, immune-response modulators and tissue-healing stimulators. Its positively charged helical structure is drawn directly to the walls of bacteria and fungi and destroys their envelopes with a decisive physical strike, giving it the ability to break down biofilms that resist the strongest antibiotics and neutralise bacterial toxins at their source. Its comprehensive mechanism draws immune cells to damaged areas, activates growth of fine blood vessels and stimulates skin cells to close wounds and repair chronic ulcers with unmatched biological efficiency. Scientists and researchers study it as a major physiological alternative for stubborn infections and for supporting tissue regeneration after surgery and accidents — because complete healing begins by supporting your body's innate defences with their specialised biological weapon for protecting life and renewing cells.
